After having their weekend games canceled due to cold weather, the Wolves returned to the field Monday for a doubleheader against a strong Iowa Central squad that entered with a 5–1 record.
In game one, Iowa Central's starting pitcher was dominant. In a contest shortened by the run rule, the Tritons' starter allowed just two base runners — one hit and one walk — as Iowa Central secured a 10–0 win.
Game two told a different story offensively. On a cold afternoon, neither team scored through the first two innings before the Wolves broke through with four runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Luke Meredith. Iowa Central answered in the fourth with a grand slam to tie the game. After the Tritons added a run in both the sixth and seventh innings, the Wolves evened the score on a two-run home run by Brandon Moore.
The tie was short-lived, as Iowa Central plated five runs in the top of the ninth. The Wolves continued to battle, with Jude Greaves driving in two runs on a double, but the comeback fell short as the Tritons completed the sweep with an 11–8 victory.
The Wolves return home to open region play against Crowder on Thursday, February 26, with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
