MCC baseball hosted Jefferson College in a four-game series, with weather forcing a schedule adjustment as games were moved up a day and played at Creekside Baseball Complex.
Game 1
After a scoreless first inning, both teams pushed across a run in the second. Jefferson broke things open in the fourth, plating five runs to take a 6-1 lead. MCC added an RBI groundout in the sixth, but it wasn't enough as the Vikings tacked on two more runs to secure an 8-2 win.
Game 2
Following another scoreless first inning, MCC struck first with an RBI from Luke Meredith in the second. In the third, Carson Schmidt doubled to score Barrett Jones, extending the lead to 2-0.
Jefferson responded with two runs in the fourth to tie the game, but the Wolves quickly regained the lead in the bottom half on an RBI single from Shane Barnett. The Vikings took their first lead of the game with a three-run sixth inning.
MCC answered in their half of the sixth when Jude Greaves singled to drive in two runs and even the score. However, Jefferson pulled away late, scoring five runs over the final three innings to claim a 10-5 victory.
Game 3
Jefferson jumped out early with a two-run homer, but MCC responded with runs of their own on an RBI triple from Eden Myers and an RBI groundout by Jude Greaves.
The Vikings regained control with four runs in the second inning. After adding another run, the Wolves tied the game in the fourth when Myers drove in two runs and later scored on a throwing error.
Jefferson took over from there, scoring five runs over the final two innings to earn an 11-6 win.
Game 4
Jefferson opened the scoring with three runs in the first, but MCC answered with one in the bottom half. The Wolves took the lead in the third with a three-run inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Brandon Moore.
The Vikings added a run in the fifth, but MCC matched it with a solo home run from Wade Mann. Jefferson tied the game at six with two runs in the sixth before MCC regained the lead when Eden Myers scored on a wild pitch.
Jefferson responded with a three-run homer to go up 9-7, but Barrett Jones tied the game in the seventh with a two-RBI double. The Vikings regained the lead in the eighth, but the Wolves answered again—Carson Schmidt tied the game with a solo homer, and Brandon Moore followed with a two-run blast to give MCC a 12-10 lead.
MCC held off a late push from Jefferson to secure a 12-11 win.
MCC returns to action Thursday (4/9) at St. Louis Community College before hosting the Archers on Saturday (4/11) for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
