2021 Spring Season Recap
The MCC Wolves soccer team completed their spring season with 2-7-2 record, but were 2-2-1 in regular season NJCAA Region XVI play. The front end of the season started strong with double overtime ties against Crowder College and State Fair Community College, as well as a 2-0 win over Mineral Area College. Although the Wolves eventually lost in the NJCAA Region XVI Quarterfinals to East Central College, MCC's 6-3 victory against ECC during the regular season secured the fourth seed and first round home playoff game. The team received outstanding contributions from multiple players.
James Perkins, Naguib Nassir and Gabe Ramos were instrumental in the Wolves success this season. Their high level of play was recognized by the region's coaches. James was voted to the NJCAA All-Region XVI First Team, while Naguib and Gabe earned NJCAA All-Region XVI Second Team honors. James not only captained the team, but also contributed two goals and two assists from defense. Naguib was recognized as one of the best goalkeepers in the region with three shutouts and 73 saves. Gabe contributed four goals during the two Wolves wins. His hat trick against East Central was instrumental to the 6-3 victory. A special thanks to sophomores Manuel Escobar, Bryce Millican, Jacob Lammering, Noah Smith, Keenan Johnson, Raul Romero, Tiku Ndi and Ko Oo. They started the majority of games and role modeled the value of hard work and dedication for the freshman student-athletes.
Academically, the MCC Wolves team succeeded in the classroom. Manuel Escobar will be awarded NJCAA All-Academic First Team honors. Noah Smith, Tiku Ndi, James Perkins, Bryce Millican and Hunter Billings all made the Dean's Honor Role during the 2020-2021 academic year, with an additional four student-athletes attaining at least a 3.0 GPA. Growth is built on hard work and character. With most of the student-athletes returning in the fall of 2021, a strong foundation has been set for future success! Go Wolf Pack!
