MCC Sweeps Visiting Pirates
Game 1 Recap
The game remained quiet on both sides until the fourth inning when the Pirates struck first, scoring one run. The Wolves quickly responded with an explosive nine-run inning in the bottom half.
Home runs from Allison Shipp, Erin Stewart, Alexis Rusley, and Ashton Russell (2) powered the big inning and gave MCC full control.
Jada Gilliland earned the win in the circle for the Wolves. The right-hander allowed 10 hits and three earned runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking four.
MCC tallied 11 hits in the game, led by Gretchen Freeman, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Gilliland and Russell each added two hits, and the Wolves turned two double plays defensively.
Game 2 Recap
The Wolves took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning. Allison Shipp and Alexis Rusley each singled, and both advanced on a groundout by Alannah Hodges. Laiken Buell then delievered a sacrifice fly to bring Shipp home for the first run.
The offense stayed quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning when MCC erupted for eight runs to walk of the game.
The Wolves finished with 12 hits, with Russell, Shipp, and Freeman each collecting two. Buell. Hodges, and Freeman each drove in two runs.
Maddy Nickell was dominant in the circle, allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings while striking out five and walking none.
A special milestone highlight--sophomore Ashton Russell recorded her 100th career hit in Game 2.
