2022 Wolves Women's Soccer Season Recap
The MCC Wolves started out the season slow with one win and three losses, but finished strong with six wins, four losses and one tie over their last 11 games.
The MCC Wolves started out the season slow with one win and three losses, but finished strong with six wins, four losses and one tie over their last 11 games. MCC concluded the season 7-8-1 and 3-2 in NJCAA Region XVI league play. Regular season highlights for the Wolves came against local rival State Fair Community College. MCC played SFCC two times, defeating them 2-0 and 2-1 in hard fought, well played games. SFCC was ranked in the NJCAA polls each contest. Goals in both games were scored by Malia Hernandez-Silva (1), Emma Robinson (2) and Jessica Baker (1).
For the season, Emma Robinson led the Wolves with seven goals. Jessica Baker (4), Brooklynn Dickens (3), Dayana Vazquez-Rubio (2), Malia Hernandez-Silva (2), Ashlee Knox (1), Vanessa Reyes-Moreno (1), Rian Handy (1) and Alisan Hoffman (1) also contributed goals this season. Brooklynn Dickens (4) and Jessica Baker (3) led the team in assists. Shelby Troxel (56) and Carrington Crain-Freeman (14) combined to make 70 saves for the Wolves.
The Wolves hosted fifth seed East Central College on October 23, 2022 in the NJCAA Region XVI Quarterfinal. Goals from Brooklynn Dickens, Emma Robinson and Ashlee Knox led MCC to a 3-1 win and semifinal matchup with number one seed St. Charles Community College. The win against East Central was the seventh straight year the Wolves have won at least one regional playoff game. In the NJCAA Region XVI Semifinal on October 26, 2022, Brooklynn Dickens scored her second playoff goal for the Wolves; however, it was not enough and MCC's season ended with a 2-1 loss to St. Charles Community College.
Although the Wolves did not reach their goal of winning a third NJCAA Region XVI title, the team's 4-3 record in regular and postseason Region XVI play has set the foundation for success in 2023!
